Black, White, and Red Poppies

It's hard to resist the classic color scheme of red, white, and black - with just a hint of bright green thrown in. The colors really pop! So, when I opened my package of Golden Honey Bee Specialty Designer Series Paper (which you can get FREE during Sale-A-Bration), I knew I had to use the black and white patterned papers with the Painted Poppies stamp set. All of these cards use Whisper White, Basic Black, Poppy Parade, and Granny Apple Green.

For the first card, I stamped the group of poppies on Whisper White cardstock using Jet Black Memento ink. I cut them using the Stitched Rectangle dies and colored them with Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends. The larger poppies and leaves are stamped and colored similarly, using the Granny Apple Green blends for the leaves, and then cut out.

For the front of the card, I used Poppy Parade cardstock with a strip of black and white striped paper from the Golden Honey Bee Specialty DSP. After adhering the patterned paper to the cardstock, I cut them both with the largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangle dies. I added the rectangle of poppies and tied Polka Dot tulle around the front before adhering the larger poppies. I stamped the "hello" from the Timeless Tulips set using Jet Black Memento ink. Finally, I attached the card front to a Basic Black card base.
For my second card, I started by applying embossing paste over one of the Basic Pattern Decorative masks on Basic Black cardstock. I set this aside to dry while I made the rest of the card.

For the card front, I embossed a piece of Poppy Parade cardstock with the Subtle 3D embossing folder. I added pieces of black and white patterned paper from the Golden Honey Bee DSP. I stamped the poppy on Whisper White cardstock using Jet Black Memento ink and colored it with Poppy Parade and Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends. I cut this out using an oval from the Stitched Shapes dies and adhered it to the Basic Black cardstock that I had put embossing paste on.

The piece of Basic Black cardstock was then layered on Whisper White cardstock before being added to the card front. I added three Basic Rhinestones to the side to give it a little extra bling. Finally, I attached the card front to a Poppy Parade card base.

My final card today has a red poppy on a circle of green. I began by stamping the poppy on Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the outline using Jet Black Memento ink. Then, I stamped the inside of the poppy with the texture stamps from the stamp set using Poppy Parade ink. I colored the leaf with Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends. I then cut out the flower and leaf.

Next, I cut a circle of Granny Apple Green cardstock using a circle from the Stitched Shapes dies. I embossed it with the Brick & Mortar embossing folder. I cut the "thanks" from Basic Black cardstock using a die from the Well Written set.

The front is Whisper White cardstock layered on Basic Black. I added a strip of black and white striped paper, also layered on black, to the front before layering on the circle, the poppy, and the greeting. I finished by attaching the card front to a Whisper White card base.

All this black, white, red, and green is so fresh and bright it makes me think of summer, despite the piles of snow outside my door!

Poppies, Poppies, Poppies!

I just couldn't resist playing with these poppies some more! I decided to make a set of four blank cards. These are perfect for sending a note to a friend just because you're thinking of them. I was inspired by the Global Design Project #216 to CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) the Designer.

The challenge was to design a card inspired by this card from designer Sarah Berry. I loved the Designer Series Paper and the rounded corners on one side and decided to carry those ideas through to not just one card, but four cards.

I wanted the four cards to all use the same paper and colors so that they would appear to be a set. However, I wanted each card to be unique as well. So, I mixed up the direction of the cards, changed the coloring method, added some texture and glam on some, and changed the proportions of the patterned paper.

For the first one, I used the stamps in the Painted Poppies stamp set to color in the poppies using Poppy Parade ink. There is a large textured splotch that I used for the general coverage of the flower. Then, there are additional speckle stamps that aren't textured in the same way as the splotch so they stamp darker. I used these to stamp over the splotch and give additional texture to the poppy. I found that this look mimicked the red patterned paper from the See a Silhouette Designer Series Paper pack.

I stamped the stem in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on Whisper White card stock. The stem actually has a smaller flower and a bud, but I covered these with the poppies that I had stamped on Whisper White and fussy cut. I also stamped the speckles in Mango Melody behind where the flowers are to give it a little texture and added a few rhinestones.
For the second card, I stamped the splotch in Mango Melody ink and then stamped the speckles in both Mango Melody and Poppy Parade. Once again, I stamped the outline of the poppies with the Tuxedo Black Memento pad. I colored the leaves by stamping the smaller speckle stamp with Granny Apple Green ink. I fussy cut the flowers and the leaves. The Mango Melody card stock is textured with the Subtle 3D embossing folder.

For the third card, I stamped the line of poppies in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on Mango Melody card stock and then I used Stampin' Blends in Poppy Parade to color them in. I stamped the poppy image and the leaves with Memento ink on Whisper White and colored those with Stampin' Blends as well. The flower is Poppy Parade and the leaves are Granny Apple Green. I added three rhinestones tot he center of the flower to glam it up a little bit.
The final card has a Poppy Parade base. I stamped the poppies and leaves with Memento ink again on Whisper White card stock. Like the previous card, I colored them with Stampin' Blends in Poppy Parade and Granny Apple Green. To give the poppies a little sparkle, I colored bits of the flowers with Wink of Stella. Love the glittery look!

It's hard to see, but I stamped the speckles in Poppy Parade ink behind the flowers to give the card stock a little more texture. Finally, I added a few rhinestones to give that little something extra.
